Understanding CAS
As a DP CAS student you are expected to develop your own individual and meaningful CAS programme, which will span the duration of your Diploma Programme. Your CAS programme should evolve around you and should be based on your personal interests, skills, talents and opportunities for growth. But you can imagine that this 'freedom' comes with responsibilities! In order to make sure you will complete your CAS programme by the end of April DP 2 you need to make sure that you have a good understanding of what is expected from you.
The requirements for your CAS programme
Your CAS programme should
Start in September DP1 Continues regularly (on a weekly basis) Last for at least 18 months Take place during the Diploma Programme Be reflected in the CAS portfolio on MB Allow you to achieve all seven learning outcomes How a good balance between the CAS strands (creativity, activity, service) Include several CAS experiences Includes at least one CAS project Includes 3 official interview recordings |
How to do it
Make sure you get started with CAS as soon as possible, stay on track and ask for advice if confused. You need to start demonstrating active involvement and engagement in the CAS programme from the start of September DP1, this should be reflected in the CAS portfolio on Managebac.
You need to show that you are actively involved in CAS and you work on your CAS on a regular basis. Each week we want to see an update from you on your MB portfolio, this could be uploading evidence, adding reflections or submitting a proposal. You will spend roughly 3-5 per week on CAS. There should be evidence in your Managebac CAS portfolio of your active engagement in CAS for at least 18 months. Meaning from September DP1 to April DP2. Any weeks/months missed should be compensated and could result in having to continue with CAS after the May exams. Everything you do for CAS needs to take place during the 2 year in DP, you cannot use anything that you have done during the summer holiday before you started DP. Your CAS portfolio is the place where you need to demonstrate what your plans for CAS are and should be kept up to date. Everything that you do for CAS needs to be shown on the portfolio. You need to ensure that you do CAS experiences that allow you to develop the CAS learning outcomes, by the end of your programme you should demonstrated them several times. You need to ensure that you plan experiences for all 3 strands (creativity, activity, service), there needs to be a reasonable balance between them. The CAS experiences could involve one or more CAS strands and can be a single event or may be an extended series of events. You will use the CAS stages framework when applicable. All CAS experiences are included in the portfolio, by an appropriate proposal and sufficient reflection and evidence to demonstrate your involvement and learning. The CAS project should be a collaborative and sustained experience of which the action stage lasts for at least one month. The project should challenge you to show initiative, demonstrate perseverance, and develop skills such as problem solving, and decision making. Your project can address any single strand or combine two or all three CAS strands. You need to use all stages of the CAS stages framework for implementing your project. Your CAS project is included in your portfolio, by an appropriate proposal and sufficient refection and evidence to demonstrate your involvement, planning, and learning. Next to the progress meetings you will have on a regular basis with your CAS advisor, you will also need to have had 3 official interviews with the CAS coordinator. These interviews will be recorded and will be documented by the CAS coordinator. |
