CAS Terminology
Advisor- Assigned person that works directly with students under the guidance of the CAS coordinator
Supervisor- The person that supervises student's CAS experience or experiences
Coordinator-Nominated staff member who oversees the CAS programme
Portfolio- A collection of evidence that showcases CAS experiences and reflections
Experience- A single event or a series of events that deal with one or more CAS strands
Project- Collaborative series of sequential CAS experiences
Strands- In CAS these are creativity, activity and service
Creativity- Exploring and extending ideas leading to a interpretive product or performance
Activity- Physical exertion contributing to a healthy lifestyle
Service- Collaborative and reciprocal engagement with the community in response to an authentic need
Stages- A framework to help students make plans and carry out CAS experiences and the project
Learning outcomes- There are 7 of these that must show evidence of achieving
Reflection- Dynamic means for self-knowing, learning and decision making
Interviews- Three of these meetings between student and coordinator are mandatory
Research- A type of service where students collect and analyze data on an issue
Advocacy- A type of service where student speak on behalf of a cause
Handbook- A booklet about CAS which is school specific
Risk-Assessment- Needs to be done for out of school experiences assessing the risk and describing opposed control measures
