Step 1: Select your goal
In order to get started with the individual CAS programme students will have to have appropriate aims and goals. They are asked to select one of the 17 UN sustainable development goals as a focus of the CAS programme. According to the goal selected they will write down how they aim to contribute to that goal in the CAS aims & goals section on the MB CAS portfolio. ''The Sustainable Development Goals are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate, environmental degradation, prosperity and peace & justice. The goals interconnect and in order to leave no one behind, it is important that we achieve each goal and target by 2030.'' Step 2: How to record your aims & goals in the ManageBac CAS Portfolio
Step 1
Students go to the portfolio page on Managebac. On the right hand side of the page click on the button 'Edit Aims and Goals' |
Step 2
Students write which goal they have selected and how they aim to contribute to this goal through your CAS programme. They should not forget to click on 'Save Changes' |
Step 3
Once the student has add their Aims & Goals it will appear at the top of the CAS portfolio. |
Now that students have their aims and goals in place it is time to start planning experiences and the project. They are asked to think of things that they can do that enables them to use their talents, to use their learning in subjects/core, to challenge themselves and at the same time are enjoyable to do. They should try to link these potential ideas to the goal selected. Keep in mind that we don't expect our students to solve the problem completely, we merely ask them to contribute to the achievement of the goal. Below you see some examples of what that could look like if you would for instance select the goal 'Zero Hunger'.
The majority of the CAS experiences/project included in the CAS portfolio should relate to the goal, but it is possible that students have some experiences they really want to do that aren't connected to the goal. We would like to give them this opportunity as well!
When starting with CAS is often difficult for students to get started, it may be worthwhile for them to brainstorm about their talents, what they enjoy to do and which skills they would like to develop. Students can use the personal inventory document to do so. After that they might have quite a few ideas about what they want to do, they can use the CAS programme planning document to make an overview for themselves and for you on when they plan to get started with these experiences. (these two documents should be uploaded under the ' CAS Documents'
