Do you want to help our students?
At the Gilbert High School our students follow the IB Diploma Programme. In order to successfully complete this programme they are required to complete a variety of CAS Experiences. Each CAS experience requires them to plan, take part in and reflect upon their participation in creative, active or service based experiences.
To help the student make most of the experiences it is beneficial for them to have a supervisor on location, who can guide and mentor them. Someone who can assist them in the pursuit of set goals and someone, who in the end, can verify and confirm their satisfactory participation in the experience by completing a short supervisor review form.

CAS is learning by doing and reflecting
In CAS emphasis is on learning by doing real tasks that have real consequences and then reflecting on these experiences over time. Through their CAS students should evaluate themselves and identify their own strengths and areas for growth. |
CAS is experimental learning
Experimental learning involves much more than just doing an activity. To be truly meaningful experiences should include: Investigation, Planning/preparation, action, observing and reflecting |
CAS is finding balance
CAS works best when it is enjoyable and when it functions as a counterbalance to the academic pressures of the rest of the Diploma Programme. The selection of CAS experiences should reflect the student's interests, passions and curiosity |
CAS is recorded through evidence
Student will have to maintain a digital CAS portfolio. They will have to collect evidence to demonstrate their involvement (photographs, videos, documents and so on.) |
CAS fits within one or more of the CAS strands
CAS experiences should fit within one of the CAS strands (Creativity, Activity and/or Service) |
CAS is developing through learning outcomes
Throughout their CAS experiences students should develop the 7 learning outcomes for CAS. They should only select the ones that are applicable for their specific experience. They are required to present evidence, demonstrating their development. |
A Student's story A student Ines, has graduated in 2017 and received her Diploma. As part of her individual CAS programme she has complete a service experience at WW in Breda. This organization helps people with a minimal income by selling them second hand goods, such as furniture, clothing, toys. This is a good environment in which the students can become more aware of the local issues.
She has sorted clothing, helping in the shop, customer support and helped with cleaning. She has had the opportunity to get in contact with the customers and get a better idea of their issues. Besides she has given the opportunity to get to know what it takes to run an organization like this one and what it takes to collaborate effectively with a team.
